Subject: Update for Ruth Ballis
Hi Family: Mom is successfully transitioned from the hospital back to Altercare. She was transferred yesterday and spent the day today resting and being evaluated by Hospice. Hospice care, has found Mom to be acceptable for their program and this means that Mom will get extra special care for all her needs.
Along with the care that Mom will receive from the nursing home, Mom will also receive additional visits from hospice nurses two times a week and hospice personal aides three times a week. This is in addition to all the care mom receives from the nurses and aides at the home!
More good news, although mom is in less than great shape now, a bit worse for the wear of her hospital stay and dehydration episode, she has an opportunity to make improvements with all this extra care. And, if she gets to a state that she can and should participate again in Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy she can get back into those programes at the nursing home.
We will be having the hospice nurse review the cookie test from the hospital and based on her recommendations, we will sign mom up for comfort feeding. this means that she gets her primary care from the feeding and hydration tube in her belly, but can enjoy an icecream or treat as she wishes. She can have a sucker now, so I am getting some of them, you bet ya.
Love to all- more tomorrow.
Special thanks to Wendy - Daughter of Peggy and Tom who made a special trip down to help us with the hospice arrangements, explain the programs to us and make us feel safe and secure in making decisions for mom.
Thanks also to Terri for making the arrangements, and way to go Terri and Jim, they got Moms medicare in Ohio just about complete.
