Update on Ruth Baillis

Mom had some out of town visitors tonight too- Aunt Betty and her daughter came in from Parma. Mom was very pleased to see them.

Hi all: Jan and I visited with mom into the evening today. She was much more awake and alert. She has improved in her responsiveness, per her nurse. when the Doc saw here this morning she was a bit distracted, they had some issues with her IV. she is improving. time will tell the full benefit. she is still not permitted to eat or drink by mouth, but she is feeding and well hydrated by the tubes. this is such a blessing, at minimum we know she is comfortable in this regard. we have been reading from the bible - god bless the gidions, the great unknown that leave those bibiles everywhere :-)
mom would give me her preference on the story we read. she liked the sermon on the mount, she liked the story of the birth of Jesus and was not interested in hearing the story of Noah.
Also, one of her favorite books- long ago, was wind in the willows. I read some of it for her tonight, but she did not seem to enjoy it at all so we moved on. I will see if I can find something more engageing to read.
Jan purchased a CD for some good music listening, and when I left I had on NPR which was playing folk music, I left it on down low and hoped she would drift off to sleep. I left about 9.15 and she was still up.
Terri and Jan also suggested I bring mom's photo frame in for her, it has all the bird photos that Jim has taken over the years in VA with mom on the piano in the background. Terri put it together, and has one of the few recordings of mom's voice left. it was so nice to hear.
Jan has made many notes over her visit and time with docs. I will post them at some point. In short, Doc said mom stomache sounds are good and that she is doing well with feeding.
Jan will be in early tomorrow as will Jim, I will be in after work or over lunch.
Love to all

Dear Family,

As I understand from Dr. Shepero (neurologist), Mom has vasculitis of the central nervous system.  His hope is that Steroid TX will bring about a noticable change in awareness.

Today(day 4) he seemed disappointed in his observations and hopes for a marked improvement tomorrow.  I told him tomorrow is my last day here and he promised to talk with me about possible options and is prepared for the "changing of the guard" with Terri's arrival.

With Peace and Graditude
Jan
